At Realterm, we strive to embed socially responsible principles and practices into everything we do. A prime example of this dedication is our remarkable bee box effort. We partnered with Alvéole, a company that connects with businesses to build ecological awareness, more sustainable cities and food systems, which installed bee boxes on some of our properties.
Our beekeeping initiative can be found on our buildings in three pivotal locations: Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Edmonton International Airport (YEG), where the colonies flourish under the diligent care of a dedicated Alvéole beekeeper and where we will host honey harvests over the next few weeks.
Established in 2021 and 2022, the YUL and YEG hives each provide a nurturing sanctuary for an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 bees. Likewise, the ORD hive boasts approximately 30,000 bees.
In tandem with the industrious efforts of the bee colonies, this initiative provides many jars of ultra-local urban honey, featuring our custom-designed label to showcase the program and our efforts to bring nature back to the built environment.
